Reference Lines

Reference lines enable you to include a dashed line on Basic Charts in Storyboards. Now visualizing averages, goals, benchmarks, and percentiles on charts is easy to achieve in One Model. One or more lines can be added to each basic chart. Types of Reference Lines include overall average, static value, and percentile. The value (for static value), line label, and line color can be controlled. For Average Reference Lines, whether to treat blanks as 0s for the average calculation is a configurable option.

Creating Reference Lines

The controls for creating, modifying, or deleting Reference Lines can be found on the Discover tab of the Tile Settings in Storyboards or One AI Assistant. The Reference Line option will only be available if the chart is a Basic Chart type.

For Static Reference Lines, values can be inputted as integers or decimals and can be positive or negative. Please note that values defined outside of the range of values on the Y axis of the chart will not be displayed.

Permissioning Reference Lines

Any user, regardless of their permissions, can view Reference Lines created by a user with the permission to do so.

The ability to create new Reference Lines requires that the user is assigned to an Application Access Role with the CanEnableOneAIReferenceLine permission checked. The CanCreateDashboard role is also required for adding Reference Lines in Storyboards, since that functionality is only available in Edit mode.

Treatment of Blanks in Average Reference Lines

If there are blank values in your chart as demonstrated in the screen shot below, you have the option to treated them as 0s or ignore them in the calculation for Average Reference Lines. By default, this setting is toggled off, meaning blanks are excluded from the average calculation. When toggled on, blanks are treated as 0s and included in the calculation. This flexibility allows you to better align average calculations with your specific data context.
