Overview
Including images in a Storyboard enhances storytelling, improves design, and creates a more visually engaging experience. You can add images as backgrounds to Key Value Tiles and Free Text Tiles, aligning visuals with your data insights. Common uses include company logos, team photos, infographic elements, and branded section dividers.
Images are managed centrally through the Image Management library in Admin > Branding. Once uploaded, any Storyboard designer with the right permissions can use them.
Permissions
There are two permission levels for working with images:
| Role | Permission needed | What it allows |
| Admin | CanConfigureCompany (Application Access Role) | Upload and delete images in Admin > Branding > Image Management. |
| Storyboard designer | CanCreateDashboard + Storyboard edit permission | Add uploaded images to Key Value Tiles or Free Text Tiles within a Storyboard. |
Uploading an image
- Navigate to Admin > Branding > Image Management.
- Click the Upload Image (+) icon in the toolbar.
- Select the file to upload.
- In the Upload Image pop-up, provide a Title, select the Image Type (JPEG or PNG), and choose a Quality setting (Low, Medium, or High).
- Click Confirm to upload.
Note: Every uploaded image undergoes an anti-virus scan to ensure security compliance.
Adding an image to a tile
Images can be added as backgrounds to Key Value Tiles and Free Text Tiles. They cannot be added to chart tiles, table tiles, or other tile types.
- Open your Storyboard and enter Modify Mode.
- Add a new Key Value Tile or Free Text Tile, or hover over an existing one to reveal the tile menu.
- Click the Settings icon.
- Navigate to the Design tab > Image Background section.
- Find and select your image from the library.
- Choose an image size option (see table below).
- Optionally toggle Repeat Image on if you want the image to tile across the background.
- Click Update to Storyboard to save.
| Size option | What it does | Best used when |
| Stretch | Expands the image to fill the entire tile. May distort proportions. | The image does not need to maintain its aspect ratio (e.g. gradient backgrounds). |
| Actual | Displays the image at its original dimensions. | The image is already the right size for the tile. |
| Contain | Scales the image to fit within the tile without cropping. May leave empty space. | You want the full image visible regardless of tile size. |
| Cover | Scales the image to fill the tile while maintaining aspect ratio. May crop edges. | You want the tile fully covered with no empty space. |
Deleting an image
- Navigate to Admin > Branding > Image Management.
- Click Delete on the row of the image you want to remove.
- A confirmation message appears warning that the image will be removed from any Storyboard tiles where it is currently used as a background.
- Click Continue to delete or Cancel to keep the image.
Note: Deleting an image is permanent. Once deleted, it is removed from every tile where it was used as a background. Verify that no active Storyboards depend on the image before deleting.
