Chat is your research assistant in One Model. It's a conversational AI feature built directly into One AI Assistant that enables natural dialogue about nearly any topic, such as looking up HR concepts or brainstorming ideas. For example, you might ask about SHRM-recognized predictors of voluntary separation, get a concise answer, and then follow up with clarifying questions — all while staying in the same thread.
Designed for ease of use, Chat requires no configuration. You simply switch to Chat mode and start asking questions, with responses that can include clear explanations, lists, tables, or other rich formatting.
Security and privacy are built in. No system data is sent to external services, and Chat operates in a permission-based environment with guardrails in place to prevent misuse.
Chat also offers optional web search capability as a separately permissioned setting. Web Search magnifies the power of Chat with complete up-to-date information and sources cited with hyperlinks. Enabling web search also makes the One Model Help Center available to Chat as a tool for answering questions about the One Model platform.

How it Works
If you’ve used an AI assistant before, Chat will feel familiar. Simply switch to Chat mode from the Mode Selector in the prompt area and ask your question. The Assistant will remain in Chat mode after returning results, so you can continue the conversation or switch modes to move on to something else at any time.

Currently, Chat does not treat questions about One Model differently from a standard AI chatbot. However, we are developing an enhanced capability that will connect One AI Assistant directly to One Model help articles—watch for this upcoming release. Please note that you cannot use Chat to submit help tickets or arrange calls with One Model staff.
If you do not see Chat listed in the Model Selector, your user account does not have permission to access this feature. Read on for information about permissioning Chat in One Model.
Permissions
While One AI Assistant Chat is permissioned in the same manner as other features, there is no configuration necessary.
User Access
User access to Chat requires the following:
- One AI Assistant is enabled for your company. See Permissioning One AI Assistant for set up details.
- User permission is controlled by the Application Access Role permission CanAccessOneAIAssistantChat
- Optional web search is controlled by the following permissions. Please note that web search is opt-in for your instance and a One Model employee will need to enable it in order for you to see either of the following permissions.
- The CanAccessOneAIChatWebSearch Application Access Role permission grants the LLM access to all of the web.
- Please note: if you enable this permission, it also includes access to the https://help.onemodel.co/ domain for answering questions about One Model.
- The CanAccessOneAIHelpWebSearch Application Access Role permission grants the LLM access to only the https://help.onemodel.co/ domain for answering questions about One Model.
- The CanAccessOneAIChatWebSearch Application Access Role permission grants the LLM access to all of the web.
Admin Access
Configuration access is controlled by the Application Access Role CanConfigureOneAI. This permission allows administrators to manage all One AI Assistant setup and maintenance.
