Chat is your research assistant in One Model. It's a conversational AI feature built directly into One AI Assistant that enables natural dialogue about nearly any topic. You can use it to research HR and workplace topics, brainstorm ideas, and get guidance on how to use One Model using Help Center informed answers, depending on your permissions. For example, you might ask: “Tell me about FMLA in Minnesota, USA,” then ask follow-up questions in the same thread to go deeper or clarify details.
Designed for ease of use, Chat requires no configuration. In AI mode, One AI Assistant will route general questions and Help Center questions appropriately so you can stay in one place while you work.
Security and privacy are built in. No system data is sent to external services, and Chat operates in a permission-based environment with guardrails in place to prevent misuse.
Chat also offers optional web search capability as a separately permissioned setting. Web Search magnifies the power of Chat with complete up-to-date information and sources cited with hyperlinks. Enabling web search also makes the One Model Help Center available to Chat as a tool for answering questions about the One Model platform.

How it Works
If you’ve used an AI assistant before, Chat will feel familiar. Simply type your question into the prompt area and submit. The conversation is threaded, so you can continue asking follow-up questions and the Assistant will retain context within that thread. One AI Assistant will route you to Chat from One AI mode, but you can manually flip to Chat mode if it's not routing you correctly. You can switch modes using the Mode Selector at any time.

Limitations
While Chat can provide information and guidance, you cannot use Chat to submit help tickets or arrange calls with One Model staff.

Permissions
Chat is permissioned via application access roles like other One AI Assistant capabilities and does not require configuration. If you do not see Chat listed in the Model Selector, your user account does not have permission to access this feature.
User Access
User access to Chat requires:

Optional web search is controlled by additional permissions. Web search is opt-in for your instance, and a One Model employee must enable it before you will see these permissions.
