The Insight Library is a central repository where you can save and manage insights created through One Model's data exploration tools. Instead of reconfiguring a complex query from scratch each time, you save it once and reuse it, which keeps your analysis consistent across sessions. This article is for any user who wants to build a reusable collection of visualisations and assemble them into Storyboards.
Permissions you need
The permission you need depends on which entry point you use to reach the Insight Library. These permissions are set in Admin > Application Role > Permission.
| Permission | What it allows |
| CanExploreData | Save insights from Explore (Charts & Tables) and open the Insight Library via the Folder icon there |
| CanConfigureOrgChart | Save insights from Explore (Org Chart) and open the Insight Library via the Folder icon there |
| CanCreateStoryboard | Open the Insight Library from a Storyboard in Modify Mode, and use the global Insight Library icon in the main navigation bar. Requires CanViewStoryboard as a prerequisite |
| CanEditHomePageDashboardTemplate | Pin insights from the Insight Library directly to the Home Page, as a single tile or several at once |
Note: If you don't have CanCreateStoryboard, the global Insight Library icon does not appear in the main navigation bar. Your Data Access Role permissions still govern which data you can view based on your selected roles. To modify a specific Storyboard, you also need Storyboard edit permission, set in Admin > Data Access Role > Storyboard > Edit or via Storyboard Settings > Sharing > Can View & Edit.
Save an insight to the Insight Library
You can capture a query or visualisation and save it from four locations. Saving from these different sources into one repository gives you a set of building blocks you can retrieve, reuse, and combine into a Storyboard later.
- From Explore Charts & Tables, open a query, click the Pin icon, and select Save to Insight Library.
- From Explore Org Charts, open the Action Menu (three dots) on your chart and select Save to Insight Library.
- From a Storyboard, hover over any existing tile, open the Tile Action Menu, and select Save to Insight Library.
- From the One AI Assistant, generate a result, select Pin Results To, and choose Insight Library.
Open the Insight Library
You can open your saved insights from several locations. The selection behaviour and available actions change depending on where you open it from.
- From the main navigation bar, click the Global Insight Library icon to pin to the Home Page, to an existing Storyboard or generate a new one.
- From Explore (Charts and Tables), click the Folder icon at the top right to load or overwrite existing Explore queries.
- From Explore (Org Chart), click the Org Chart icon in the navigation bar, then the Folder icon at the top right to retrieve saved organisational structures.
- From a Storyboard, enter Modify Mode (pen icon), click the + icon, and select Open Insight Library.
When the Insight Library opens, you see a window with a left column listing your Categories and saved Insights, a right panel to preview the selected Insight, options to search, sort, and create a new Category, and context-specific actions at the bottom.
The Insight Library is personalised: your Categories and Insights are individual to you. You can still share the insights themselves with others through Storyboards.
Pin insights to the Home Page
If you have the CanEditHomePageDashboardTemplate permission, you can pin saved insights from the Insight Library directly to the Home Page, instead of pinning them to a Storyboard first and copying them across. Opened from the main navigation bar, the Insight Library supports multi-select, so you can pin a single insight or several at once in one action.
- Click the Global Insight Library icon in the main navigation bar.
- In the left column, use the checkboxes to select one or more Insights, or select a whole Category.
- Click Pin to Home Page.
- Choose how to finish: Save and go back pins the insights to the bottom of the Home Page (one tile per row) and returns you to the Insight Library; Save and go to the Home Page pins them and navigates you there.
Pin insights to an existing Storyboard
Use the global Insight Library icon in the main navigation bar to add saved insights to a Storyboard. Opened from the main navigation bar, the Insight Library supports multi-select, so you can select individual Insights or an entire Category using the checkboxes.
- Click the Global Insight Library icon in the main navigation bar.
- In the left column, use the checkboxes to select one or more Insights, or select a whole Category.
- Click Pin to an Existing Storyboard.
- In the panel, choose the Storyboard and the Page.
- Choose how to finish: Save and go back pins the insights to the bottom of the chosen page (one tile per row) and returns you to the Insight Library; Save and go to the Storyboard pins them and navigates you straight to that page.
Tip: Clicking an Insight name previews it in the right panel without changing your checkbox selection. If you pin insights to the Storyboard and page you're currently viewing, the page reloads so you can see the new tiles.
Generate a new Storyboard from selected insights
- Click the Global Insight Library icon in the main navigation bar.
- Use the checkboxes to select one or more Insights, or select a whole Category.
- Click Generate a New Storyboard.
One Model closes the Insight Library and builds a new Storyboard automatically. It names the Storyboard after the first selected Insight, creates a first page named Page 1, and adds a full-width title tile (no tile header) showing the Storyboard name in bold, centre-aligned text. It then inserts each selected Insight as a tile below the title, placing tiles side by side across each row until they wrap, in the same order they appear in the Insight Library.
Open an insight in Explore Charts and Tables
When you open the Insight Library from Explore Charts and Tables, it works in single-select mode.
- Select the Explore tab in the main navigation bar.
- Click the Folder icon at the top right to open the Insight Library.
- Click an Insight name in the left column to select it and preview it in the right panel.
- Click Open in Current Page (in the right panel or at the bottom of the window) to open the insight in Charts and Tables.
Open an insight in Explore Org Chart
When you open the Insight Library from Explore Org Charts, it also works in single-select mode.
- Select the Explore Org Charts icon in the main navigation bar.
- Click the Folder icon at the top right to open the Insight Library.
- Click an Insight name in the left column to select it and preview it in the right panel.
- Click Open in Current Page (in the right panel or at the bottom of the window) to open the insight in Explore Org Charts.
Insert insights into a Storyboard from Modify Mode
When you open the Insight Library from a Storyboard in Modify Mode, it supports multi-select.
- Open your Storyboard from the Storyboard tab by clicking its name.
- Click the pen icon at the top right to enter Modify Mode.
- Click the + icon, then select Open Insight Library from the Build Storyboard menu.
- Use the checkboxes to select one or more Insights, or select a whole Category.
- Click Insert to Current Page at the bottom of the window.
One Model closes the Insight Library and adds your selected insights as new tiles at the bottom of the Storyboard, one tile per row, in the same order they appear in the Insight Library.
Manage your saved insights and categories
To manage saved content, select an item and click the Action Menu (three vertical dots) in the top-right corner of the preview panel. The available options depend on what you select.
- Rename (Insights and Categories): select the option, type the new name, and click Save.
- Duplicate (Insights only): creates an immediate copy named with the prefix Copy of.... Categories can't be duplicated.
- Delete (Insights and Categories): a confirmation prompt appears warning that the action can't be undone. Click Delete to confirm or Cancel to exit.
To find an insight, type a term into the search box; matching insights appear in the list. To reorder the list, use Sort by to switch between alphabetical and date-based order. To group your content, click Create New Category, type a name, and click Save.
