What you’ll learn
By the end of this article, you’ll know how to:
- Rename a Storyboard and update its description.
- Copy a Storyboard to create a working draft.
- Move a Storyboard to a different category.
- Delete a Storyboard you no longer need.
- Show or hide widget filter labels for troubleshooting and screenshots.
- Add, rename, reorder, copy, and delete pages within a Storyboard.
You can also manage settings from within an open Storyboard using the Settings tab in the title bar.
Renaming a Storyboard
- In the Storyboard Library, find the Storyboard you want to rename.
- Click the three dots at the end of the row to open the action menu.
- Click Settings.
- Update the Storyboard name, description and category as needed. You can also toggle on/off the prompt to apply filters before a Storyboard loads.
- Click Save.
You can also rename from inside an open Storyboard by clicking the Settings tab in the top navigation bar.
Copying a Storyboard
Copying creates an independent duplicate of the Storyboard, including all tiles, queries, and page layout. The copy is saved to the Unshared category by default.
- In the Storyboard Library, open the action menu for the Storyboard you want to copy.
- Click Copy.
- Optionally rename the copy and update the description.
- Click Copy to confirm.
Tip: Copying is a good practice before making significant changes. Work on the copy, and when you’re satisfied, use Replace Storyboard Contents to swap it into the original without changing the URL or breaking any embedded links.
Changing a Storyboard’s category
- Open the action menu for the Storyboard.
- Click Settings.
- Use the Category dropdown to select a new category.
- Click Save.
Categories are managed by your Admin. If you need a new category created, contact your Admin.
Deleting a Storyboard
- In the Storyboard Library, open the action menu for the Storyboard.
- Click the trash can icon to Delete.
- Confirm the deletion when prompted.
Note: Deleting a Storyboard is instant and immediately permanent. If the Storyboard is embedded elsewhere or shared with other users, those links and access will break. Consider copying it first if you might need it later.
Showing or hiding widget filter labels
Widget filter labels display at the top of each tile, showing the roles and people filtered to see that tile. They are turned on by default for all users and are useful for troubleshooting - you can quickly verify which filters are affecting each tile.
You may want to turn them off temporarily, for example when taking screenshots of a Storyboard to share externally.
- Open the Storyboard Settings tab (from the action menu in the Library or the Settings icon in the Storyboard title bar).
- Find the Display widget filter toggle.
- Slide the toggle to Off.
- Click Save.
The filter labels will no longer be visible. When you have finished taking your screenshots, return to the Settings tab and reset the toggle to On.
Tip: Keep widget filter labels turned on during normal use. They make it much easier to troubleshoot when a tile is not showing the data you expect -- you can immediately see whether a filter is restricting the view.
Managing pages
All page management happens in Modify Mode using the page menu at the bottom of the screen.
Adding a page
Click the Add Page + icon in the page menu. A new blank page is created and you're switched to it automatically.
Renaming a page
Hover your mouse next to the page name to reveal the three dot action menu. Click on the three dots to reveal the pop up menu. Click Rename and enter a descriptive name that tells viewers what they'll find on that page - for example, "Headcount Overview" or "Recruitment Pipeline."
Reordering pages
Drag a page tab to a new position in the page menu. The order of tabs is the order viewers see. Put the most important or summary page first. When you have multiple pages, you can use the three dot action menu to move pages quickly to the beginning or end of your Storyboard.
Copying a page
Use the three dot action menu on a page tab and select Copy. This duplicates all tiles and their configurations onto a new page. Useful when you want a similar layout for a different department or time period. You also have an option to Copy a page to another Storyboard.
Deleting a page
Use the three dot action menu and select Delete. This removes the page and all its tiles immediately and permanently.
Note: If the Storyboard is embedded externally, deleting or reordering pages changes the page IDs in the URL. Any bookmarks or embedded links pointing to deleted pages will redirect to the first page. Update embedded links after making structural changes.
