One Model can accept flat files as data sources, i.e. spreadsheets or csv files. Users with permission can quickly and easily upload their flat files by following these instructions.
Note: The File Upload page will only accept files of less than 2GB. Larger files can be compressed, and/or sent via SFTP using the One Model SFTP Users.
Navigate to Data>Sources
To get started, head over to the Data > Sources page of the application:
Uploads Page
Now we want to head to the Uploads page for the Data Source that you are wanting to load data for.
Note a file can be uploaded to any data source with a paper icon. The data sources are used for front end categorization, but on the back end it's the name of the file that actually determines where and how the file is loaded. Please ensure that your file name and type is correct.
This is located here:
This will take you to the upload screen:
Then click the Choose files, which will allow you to select the file/s you would like to upload for the data source:
Select the files you want to upload and click Open. This brings your file across to the Upload page.
Now the files are listed for upload, click the Upload button, once the blue bar turns green the file upload has been completed:
If the file has a data source input setup, the new file will now show up in the Data > Loads screen.
Troubleshooting
If you have difficulty uploading your flat files, consider the following;
- Ensure that all File Name Patterns contain only the permitted non-alphanumeric characters '_', '-', '.', '%', and whitespace. All other non-alphanumeric characters will be rejected..
- If you are using a wildcard (%), check that the start of the File Name Pattern exactly matches. E.g. Locations%.csv
- Check adherence to the agreed naming convention for your source files, for example:
- Destructive file upload: <SystemName>_<FileName>_<ExtractionDate(YYYYMMDD)>.*
- Incremental file upload: <SystemName>_<FileName>_<ExtractionDate(YYYYMMDD)>.*
- Are you using a supported file format such as a .csv, .txt, .xml, or .json? We recommend .csv or .txt.
- Where possible, we advise avoiding using:
- Comma ‘,’ as a part of the string. If you need to have it, please specify quote qualifiers like “ (i.e.: “John, Black”).
- Comments in header as shown below.
-
- Borders as they will create empty columns, or
- Footers as they will cause validation errors.
