Connect to ODBC Driver

Below are the high-level instructions for connecting One Model to an ODBC Driver. For specific details on your Redshift cluster, please work with a member of the One Model Support Team.

There are two different versions of the ODBC driver which can be installed. One is for use with 32-bit applications and the other is used with 64-bit applications. Before installing the ODBC driver, you should determine which version of the driver you will need for the application you are connecting it to. In some cases you may need to install both the 32-bit and 64-bit drivers if you are using two tools which differ in their architecture.

Download and install the ODBC driver

The ODBC driver can be downloaded from the AWS help resources for windows, linux or mac. The versions that are available will change over time and you will want to choose the right driver for the types of applications you intend on using it with. For example if you have 32-bit Excel installed and intend on using the ODBC driver with Excel, you will want the 32-bit ODBC driver as well.

In the case that you do need a DNS entry for application you are using, the first step is to find the Set up ODBC data sources entry in the start menu. There are two versions of this configuration menu that you can use, one is for setting up 32-bit connections and the other is for 64-bit connections, choose the one which is correct for your needs.

Once you have this open, select the System DNS tab in the application. This is where we will configure the ODBC driver. You should see a screen similar to the below:

Add DNS Record

The first step to adding the ODBC DNS connection is to select the Add button from System DNS screen. Next you will need to select the type of connection you wish to use. You should select the PostgreSQL Unicode entry which is available.

Next you will need to configure the connection to the One Model database. These connection details can be obtained from One Model support if you have purchased the direct connection part of the platform. Once completed it should look something similar to this.

Once you have configured the connection, it is a good idea to test that it is working by clicking on the Test button. You should see a dialogue box telling you that the connection is successful if everything has been configured correctly.

Once you have tested the connection, click the save button and it will be added to the list of System DNS connections in the list.

Note: you should always be careful to select the SSL option or specify the SSL mode as required wherever it is available. SSL is used to encrypt all of the communication between your client machine and the One Model database that you are using.
